Find Your New Go-To Drink With These Alternative Cocktails

Did you know that, for every cocktail you already know, there are a bunch of cocktails you can replace it with and still have a thrilling evening, or even better? And there could be more awesomely mixed cocktails out there than there are colors on a chameleon, only an average reveler we haven’t discovered them yet. Here is a list of cocktails you already know and the cosmo-mixology advice on their substitutes:

Substitute a Negroni with a Boulevardier

Negroni might be that classic cocktail you don’t want to stop sipping, but Negroni is no longer the hit it used to be. You may want to try something as bitter and thirst-quenching as a Boulevardier. Boulevardier is an excellent alternative to Negroni, especially for those revelers who would easily pick gin over bourbon. The reason why Boulevardier is a superb alternative to Negroni is that it delivers that familiar sweetness you’d get in bourbon but feels a little bitter under your tongue.

Substitute a Mai tai with a Walking Zombie

Both Mai tai and Walking Zombie share a common feature: they’re both rum-based drinks. The Walking Zombie, however, is quite elaborate. It is made from dark, white, or golden rums; pineapple juice; lime; and apricot brandy, a combo that gives it a fruity signature any thirsty reveler would appreciate in the summer. The Walking Zombie should not be mistaken with its other cousin, the ol’ zombie – the key difference between the two is that the Walking Zombie leaves out the 151-proof rum during preparation.

Substitute a Mojito with a Caipirinha

Caipirinha is based on cachaca, a liquor made from cane sugar, and resembles rum only that it is clearer and less viscous. To prepare Caipirinha, the bartender will muddle sugar and lime juice in a glass before adding cachaca and few ice cubes. The resultant drink is sweet and cool and has an identifiable character compared to Mojito.

Substitute a Cosmopolitan with a Debutante

Debutante is an excellent drink for anyone who fancies the Cosmopolitan but would like to sip something pinkish this time round. There is a reason why Debutante is referred to as the sweet pomegranate gimlet; it comes in pink and contains lime juice, grenadine, and gin. If you want something fruity and sweet to sip at the poolside, Debutante would be a great option.

Substitute Margarita with a Paloma

If we must be frank, we have to admit that no other cocktail beats a Margarita for many people. However, the cocktail that might come close to rivaling it is a Paloma that is starting to gain on Margarita among the avid drinkers who want a different sort of summertime drink. Paloma resembles a Margarita in some way because both incorporate a citrus base, lime, and tequila. But Paloma avoids being overly feminine by incorporating some grapefruit.

Substitute a mimosa with a Duke

Mimosa is the staple for every brunch, and there is a strong chance you’re already bored with it. So next time you show up in the bar, think of ordering a Duke. Duke is a champagne cocktail that incorporates some orange juice and sparkling wine. It can be enhanced further with lemon juice and egg white, which gives adds a frothy “cream” on top.

Substitute gin and tonic with a Tom Collins

Hot weather often begs for something crisp and refreshing. If you want a simpler and more elegant alternative, try out a Tom Collins. Unlike gin, whose herbal taste can be off-putting sometimes, Tom Collins incorporates the lemon kick, which is likable to many people. To prepare a Tom Collins, you will need gin, superfine sugar, lemon wheel, lemon juice, and club soda.

Substitute a Bloody Mary with a Red Snapper

A savory morning meal or any brunch with similar settings almost always comes with a bloody Mary as a standard drink. That’s awesome, but the red snapper can be a much better upgrade. The red snapper doesn’t taste any close to bloody Mary, perhaps because of its seven incredible ingredients: gin, tomato juice, fresh lemon juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, and fresh black pepper.
